Most people do not call a remodeler because they want a project. They call because a house that worked ten years ago stopped working, and the fix is bigger than a weekend.
We are a general contractor based in McDonald, TN, and remodeling and additions are the bulk of what we do. Kitchens and bathrooms. Whole home renovations. Additions that give a growing family a room it does not currently have. One team runs the whole job, from the first measurement through the final coat of paint, which means you are not the project manager of your own house.

What We Remodel
Kitchens and bathrooms are the two rooms that get remodeled most, and for good reason. They carry the most plumbing, the most electrical, and the most daily frustration.
Beyond those, we do whole home renovations where the plan touches every room, single room updates, basement finishing, and additions. A remodel can be one contained project or a staged plan spread over a couple of years, and we are happy to build it either way. Staging it is often the smarter financial move, and we will say so when it is.
We also work on homes that are not really about style at all. Aging in place changes, wider doorways, a first floor bedroom and bath, a curbless shower. That work deserves the same design attention as a showpiece kitchen and it rarely gets it.
Home Additions: Bump-Outs, Second Stories, and In-Law Suites
Adding square footage is a different animal from remodeling what exists.
A bump-out extends an existing room by a few feet and is the cheapest way to buy space. A full addition puts new foundation, framing, roof, and mechanicals on the ground beside your house. A second story addition is the most involved of all, because the existing structure has to carry the new load and the whole house is exposed while the roof is off.
According to the International Residential Code, footings for an addition must bear below the local frost line, and in this part of Tennessee that means going down at least 12 inches on undisturbed soil. Tying the new roof into the old one correctly is the other detail that separates an addition that looks original from one that looks bolted on. We flash and frame those transitions carefully, because that junction is where leaks show up in year three.
What about the in-law suite question, which we get asked constantly?
It is usually doable. A bedroom, bath, and small living area with its own entrance is a common addition around here, and a separate kitchen pushes it into different territory for permitting and utilities. We look at the lot, the setbacks, the septic or sewer situation, and the panel capacity before we promise anything.
How Our Process Works
You get told what is happening and when. That sounds basic. Ask anyone who has been through a remodel where the crew stopped showing up for nine days with no explanation, and you will hear how rare it actually is.

Design That Fits the House You Already Have
Every house tells you what it wants if you look at it long enough.
We work closely with you on the design, and we design into the existing structure rather than against it. Roof lines, window proportions, floor heights, ceiling heights. An addition with 8 foot ceilings hung off a house with 9 foot ceilings reads wrong even to people who cannot say why.
In our experience, the projects that go badly are almost never badly built. They are badly decided, early, by someone who did not walk the whole plan through before the first wall came down. So we spend time on the front end that other crews skip, and we would rather lose two weeks in planning than two months in rework.
Energy Efficient Choices Worth Paying For
Not every green upgrade earns its money back, and we will tell you which ones do.
Air sealing and attic insulation are the two that pay for themselves fastest in our climate, because Southeast Tennessee summers are long and humid and most older houses leak conditioned air all day. Low-E windows are worth it when the existing windows are single pane. Solar attic fans are usually not worth it compared to sealing the ceiling plane properly first.
We can also spec efficient fixtures, LED lighting throughout, and better HVAC zoning as part of a larger remodel, which costs far less when the walls are already open.

What a Remodel Costs and What Moves It
Why does the same size project come back at wildly different prices from two contractors?
Four things move the number more than anything else.
Whether plumbing, gas, or drain lines relocate. Whether any wall coming out is carrying load, which pulls in a beam and sometimes an engineer. The finish level you choose, where the range from builder grade to custom is enormous. And the condition of what we find once demo starts, especially in older homes with original wiring, cast iron waste lines, or subfloor damage nobody knew about.
We price with allowances for the unknowns rather than pretending we can see through a floor. When demo tells us something new, you get a real number and a real choice, not a surprise on the final invoice. Transparent pricing means you know where every dollar sits, including the ones we would rather you did not spend with us.

Frequently Asked Questions About Home Remodeling in McDonald, TN
How long does a home remodel take?
A single bathroom runs about three to five weeks of active work. A kitchen runs six to ten. A whole home renovation or an addition is measured in months, and the design and permit stage happens before any of that clock starts. We give you the real sequence upfront.
Do you handle the permits and inspections?
Yes. We file the permits and meet the inspectors. Depending on your address that runs through the city or through the county, and we deal with whichever one applies so you do not have to learn the process.
Can we live in the house during the remodel?
For a single room, almost always. For a kitchen, yes with some planning, because you will be without a sink for part of it. For a whole home renovation or a second story addition, usually not, and we would rather tell you that in the first meeting than in week four.
How much does a home addition cost in the Chattanooga area?
It depends on foundation work, roof tie-in, and whether the addition needs its own HVAC and plumbing. Those three answers set the range before finishes even enter the conversation. We walk the site, ask those questions, and give you a range you can plan against.
Do you work outside McDonald?
We do. McDonald is our base, and we cover the wider Chattanooga area across Tennessee and North Georgia. Ask through our contact page and we will tell you straight whether your address is in range.
